Music

The music program at Heritage College has its foundations in the Kodaly concept. Students from kindergarten through to year 7 have weekly music classes where they build their knowledge and skills in this all-inclusive approach to music learning. All students participate in this aural based method, and choral singing is fundamental to each child’s learning journey. Orff concepts are also embedded in the lower primary years, with Orff instruments and philosophy featuring in nearly every music class.

To broaden their learning after primary school, the school boasts a Secondary School Girls’ Chamber Choir and a Concert Band.

The Girls’ Chamber Choir are a small group of auditioned singers ranging from Year 7 – Year 12. The choir performs a range of sacred and secular works, from hymns to jazz numbers and everything in between! The Girls’ Choir regularly perform at various school and community events, and in 2016, they workshopped and performed with the ARIA award winning choir, The Idea of North.

In Year 5, all students join the Year 5 band program, where tuition is provided on wind and brass instruments for all students. After 6 months, students are invited to join the Heritage College Concert Band, which has been running since 2015.

The Heritage College Concert Band have weekly rehearsals during school hours, and have performed at a number of school events over the years. The band performs a range of music, including movie and Broadway numbers.

Private piano lessons are also available for students at Heritage College, with regular performance opportunities available for students who enrol.
