Music

The music program at Heritage College has its foundations in the Kodaly concept. Students from Kindergarten through to year 6 have weekly music classes where they build their knowledge and skills in this all-inclusive approach to music learning. All students participate in this aural based method, and choral singing is fundamental to each child’s learning journey. Orff concepts are also embedded in the lower primary years, with Orff instruments and philosophy featuring in nearly every music class.

To broaden their learning throughout their time at Heritage College, the school boasts a Choir and a Concert Band. The Choir consists of students from Years 3-6, and the Concert Band has members from Year 6-11.

In Year 5, all students join the Year 5 band program, where tuition is provided on wind and brass instruments for all students. After 6 months, students are invited to join the Heritage College Training Band, which has been running since 2015. After the students have acquired the rudiments of performing together in an ensemble, they then enter the Concert Band.

The Heritage College Concert Band have weekly rehearsals during school hours, and have performed at a number of school events over the years. The band performs a range of music, including movie and Broadway numbers.

Private piano lessons are also available for students at Heritage College, with regular performance opportunities available for students who enrol.
