The inspiration for Heritage College Perth was
undoubtedly the phenomenal experiences of Heritage Colleges in
Adelaide, Sydney and Cooranbong, NSW. These schools had been in
operation for between 4-7 years when work began on creating a
similar school for Perth.
In April 2005 the College was registered by the
state government for operation and the search for a suitable site
for the school began in earnest.
A 3 acre block in Forrestfield was purchased in Nov
2005. Previously a nursery, the site was heavily vegetated and
contained a small 1970's vintage house, a small swimming pool and a
number of sheds and out-buildings.
So began three hectic months of clearing, building
and renovating with the majority of the labour being provided by the
Christadelphian community of Perth. By February 2006 the lawn
was rolled out and the school year was ready to start with the
'house' converted to an administration building (with high school
class), a newly built classroom block for Kindergarten to Year 4 and
a renovated demountable classroom for our Year 5 to 7 students.
The school opening assembly was held on 6 February
2006.
While the staff and students got on with the serious
side of learning and setting the College atmosphere, development
work on the site continued and still continues. A Design &
Technology / Science classroom was constructed during the year and
future building plans (as the College continues to grow) include
additional classrooms, seminar style rooms and a purpose built
library.
